The Apprenticeship Community

A community shaped by a shared Rule of Life, spiritual practices, theological formation, and hands-on ministry leadership to become more like Jesus.

Being with Jesus. Becoming Like Jesus. Doing As Jesus Did.

The Apprenticeship Community at City Movement Church is rooted in three areas of formation:

Communal Formation

Theological Formation

Church Leadership Formation

COMMUNAL FORMATION

The foundation of apprenticeship is covenantal life together under Jesus. Apprentices commit to shared spiritual practices that invite Jesus to work in and through the ordinary, daily habits of community life. Two rhythms that anchor apprenticeship life together are daily morning prayer and our weekly shared dinner.

THELOGICAL FORMATION

Apprentices deepen their understanding of God and His story, grow in holy imagination and renewed minds, and are equipped to thoughtfully engage a complex world with the wisdom, grace and good news of the Gospel. Alongside the help of the facilitator and guest teachers, apprentices gather twice a week for honest and generous dialogue about the assigned material.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP FORMATION

Apprentices become rooted in a ministry location of City Movement Church, practicing hands-on ministry learning, leadership, and reflection. The purpose is to grow in competency and capacity, as well as humility and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading. With the guidance of a CMC ministry leader, apprentices are given opportunities to serve the local church and broader community, take on leadership responsibilities, and then reflect on those experiences in the trustworthy space of mentorship.

“We can’t think our way into new desires. But where our habits go, our hearts follow. This means we must do more than think rightly about Jesus. We must become lifelong apprentices to Jesus.”
